OFFICER DOWN FOUNDATION, a non-profit educational organization, is dedicated to improving the field of critical incident preparation, response and recovery.
Critical incidents not only negatively impact those immediately associated with the disaster, but have been proven to adversely affect the health and well being of responding law enforcement officers and their families well outside the area of concern.
Commonly referred to as "critical incidents", these outlier situations can cause public safety officers to
CLICK TO OPENexperience unusually strong emotional reactions, interfering with an officer's ability to function at the scene or in later unrelated incidents.
As a delayed effect, debilitating Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome may occur. Officer Down Foundation seeks to limit the devastating impact of critical incidents -whether it’s the line-of-duty death of a fellow officer, a catastrophic natural event or personal tragedy.
Ground Zero - following 911, FLDS (Eldorado, TX), Hurricane Katrina and Fort Hood Military Base shootings are just a few examples of such critical incidents.
Officer Down Foundation represents years of experience in assisting individuals, families, departments, etc., with these law enforcement crises by providing assistance with bereavement support, police funeral planning and post-traumatic stress syndrome.
